On language, redux

Recently I posted an entry about Monkey and her alleged delay in language.

So I fretted and frowned and bought flashcards. And M (daddy) and I have been doing flashcards like mad with Monkey, who loves them. A lot. So much so that she cries piteously and has a tantrum when it is time to stop doing flashcards. (ahhhh, a child after my own heart.....I fondly remember begging my mother to teach me long division when I was a kid because it was interesting. and yes, I was a nerd.)

Not only did I fret, I also (ahem) counted the words that she uses. Every single one. Turns out she uses something close to 43 words. And growing. She seems to know a new one every day.

And, according to her pediatrician, she is not only not behind, she's ahead of the curve. She is apparently VERY verbal. Just really really stubborn about deciding when she wants to use her words.

Recognize anyone else in that description of a highly verbal stubborn person? Yeah, I don't either.....

One other thing......it drives me CRAZY that one week she's behind, the next she's ahead. Good lord. It's a good thing I stopped reading all those "milestone" articles in magazines, books, and online....otherwise I'd really drive myself crazy. After all, if my own personal team of experts can't agree, then how on g*d's green earth am I supposed to know how to trust?

I think I'll just stick to my (unbiased) opinion of Monkey: she's perfect, just the way she is.

So, what would "3" bottles of soda a day do for her language skills?

Sorry, I'm still in denial about the whole issue. After all, Coke is it!

Even if it isn't, I'm contributing to world peace by buying a Coke and teaching my cats how to sing, right?

Bah, I'm starving and not feeling particularly funny...when we going to lunch?

PS I want to give a shout out to my future spouse who gathers great amusement from this blog just because it will annoy her if I do. ;D
